Organized a couple of tables for the University Club’s Hard Days Night with the Sutclliffes. Great music, dancing and conversations.. some with strangers with big stories to share.
What was fresh was being told of a need and getting agreement to start a new conversation between two strangers who both have lost loving spouses.
Met a 4th year student in Environmental Studies on the bus to UVic. He’s a guide on Haida Gwaii in the summers.
He chose to major in Environmental Studies, from taking one second year course with James Rowe. He said from that experience, “I was hooked.”
I then wrote James, related part of my adventure on the bus, and asked for a meeting. A few days later he responded. We just had that meeting yesterday. Here are some of his thoughts on what makes teaching impactful.
During that meeting he asked me if I would like to come into his class and share one of my projects for an hour or two.
Through a grand living room window I watched a beautiful evening turn to dusk and then to darkness with a loved one. Tranquil and precious. Took some time to be still.
Walked to my bus by an absolute gentleman.
Perfect bus connections.
Asked to go to the store to buy some henna. Two staff members didn’t know where the product was in the store. Another staff member did know and took us to the right aisle, featuring Asian products. It was not considered a hair product, but is called henna for hands, and deemed the highest quality. Turns out the same box would be $10 or $20 in Montreal or on-line, is $1.68 here in Fairway Market.
Finding and appreciating the experts
My WhatsGoneWellToday page ( on ConversationWorks) became very slow loading.I made some adjustments, and then called tech help with BlueHost. I spent over 10 hours problem solving over a day and a half, talking to about 5 techs.. of various abilities. I did get it working somewhat better, learned a lot, but was still unsatisfied.
This morning I ended up with Kelton who has the ideal mix of attitude and skills. Although this question was beyond what they had to do, he called upon more senior personnel, and solved the problem. We had a good chat about finding the right people.. and the rewards he finds making that special effort.
Massive growth in my relationship with my boo… Pretty much the biggest blessing there could be! Feeling loved and supported and grateful for my support network.
