Journal for first day:
( Please write at least 6 sentences in response to any or all of these questions.)
What surprised you about Community School Interviews?
What did you notice during the class?
Which speaker are you looking forward to seeing. What interests you about them?
Journal Day 2 Speaker feedback:
What stood out from each speaker?
What’s a story they told that you liked?
Which speaker ‘spoke’ most to you, and why?
In my opinion, the speaker I learned the most from, was Monique Gray Smith. She showed me that you’re actions, whether you think they do or not, affect many people. I will definatley use this in my life and make sure i make the right decisions. All of the speakers still had great causes though. I was surprised to learn about what they have done, and impacted the world. Chris Naismith for example, can save lots of money a year for people by reprogramming computers and sensors in buildings. (accidently posted this on the 2013 page as well)
On the first day, I noticed that my questions improved as I thought more about the topics and what I was curious about. I was surprised that people can do so many amazing things in one day and still have time to do the things everyone else does. I’m really looking forward to seeing Monique Gray Smith’s interview. I’m curious about her work and what she does to help people in need. Her work is inspiring, and I would like to know what inspired her to do it. I’m also looking forward to seeing Amalia Shelhorn, because I want to know how someone can be so dedicated to one thing. I also really want to find out what she means by talent is over rated. I’m very excited to interview the three speakers, and see what inspired them to accomplish such amazing things.
Throughout this two day project, I learned a lot of new skills. On the first day, I learned that asking questions is a good thing, you should ask questions if you don’t know what something is, or if you don’t understand something. People also like it when other people are curious, and ask lots of questions. That gives the person the feeling that you are really into the conversation, and that your not staring off into space. I also learned that many people want to change the world for the better, so that we can all become better people, and care for each other.
I noticed that everybody gets a chance to answer or ask if they want. I noticed that the speaker was very positive. I noticed that it was important to ask questions. I learned that there are good and bad questions. I learned to ask questions at a job interview. I will use the topics discussed by these speakers in real life with family, career and other aspects of growing up
During the first class of the two day project, I learned how to ask more interesting questions. I noticed that if your question or comment is related to what the speaker is saying, you won’t be criticized. I’m looking forward to see Christopher speak. Because his job interests me, and I think his idea about conserving energy is great. I learned that if you talk with a smile people will respond more positively. One thing that surprised me is that, if you don’t ask questions at a job interview, its unlikely to get the job.
