Phoned a seniors care facility to see if a friend’s father was up for a visit. I called the wrong floor, and they told me that he had been in the hospital for a week. I was able to find his son and he had visited him in his room a few days earlier, and told me the right floor to contact. When I phoned the 5th floor, the nurse was so loving… and checked to see if a visit was welcome. Having the right info, and not accepting all the stories or evidence we hear is important.
.Recently at breakfast I saw that there was almost no milk left for cereals which some of us use, but I immediately remembered that a local market was now open 24 hours, so quickly drove there for some. This was such a very nice experience that I’ve done it several times since … very light traffic, parking lot almost empty, more staff than customers, immediate check-out with very cheerful staff woman. Home in time for breakfast, and enough food in refrig for several days. All done before 8!
Crossing the street at Fort and Blanchard with the sky pouring down on us a lovely young 20ish lady stood beside me all dressed up with somewhere to go. I invited her to stand under my Umbrella to stay dry. We walked across the street and she shared with me she was going to a job interview. I felt hononred to be able to wish her good luck and re-assure her they were lucky to have the opportunity to hire her. I would have hired her on the spot …she had such great energy. On the way out from the bank an elderly 80ish lady all dressed up with a beautiful delicate soft peach scarf/shawl parked her walker and asked about my Umbrella..two short visits that colored my day with sunshine. My Umbrella became a talking stick! Oh how I love being a Traveler in Your Own Town
Early morning road riders on Ring Road. Each rider took turns in the lead, and the pace was consistent. The young rider appears to be about 12 the rest 20/30s… Inspiring to see the commitment and community.
I love the wide range of community building projects people tell me about. Here Trish shares one from a social housing complex. It adapted what was already available, and tapped into many of the ideas of residents.
Definitely new on the app block. PowerCalc is almost the same as having a fully functioned scientific calculator on my phone. So interesting that it’s been developed so recently. Encouraging! Being curious about ‘what’s out there’ is definitely a TravelerInYourOwnTown keystone.
