I took an envelope of name tags .. for a grad reunion to a local post office outlet to be mailed to an organizer. The clerk took such pains to find the most economical and effective way of shipping it. He taped all the tags twice to make sure they aligned perfectly and flatly. He found a way for it to be delivered in 2/5 days for $4. First time I’ve seen a post office clerk give that level of service.
About 4 days ago Loni came up with idea of having a portable round table top on top of our fire pit. I contacted a very handy friend with a remarkable inventory of used materials and he said he could help. In his workshop he found some plywood and put a nail in the centre and inscribed at 36″ circumference inside it, cutting it out with a jig saw. He suggested the best stain to use and how a small can of it would do the job.
In my 5:30 am gardening time on a friend’s farm, even the guard geese are chill when I walk by. These guys even attack the owner at times.
Driving close to UVic about 5:30 am, I saw a person slumped into a pile on the side of a usually busy road. I parked close by and phoned 911. They asked me to have him lie on his back, check his breathing.. and try to wake him up. I couldn’t do the latter. Soon after a Saanich Fire van pulled up and I left… In a few minutes they had him standing up.
On a farm plot we are given each year we grow pumpkins. I sowed them in early May.. and for a number of reasons was not able to return to the plot for over a month… to find this green carpet of weeds.. with no signs of pumpkin starters. The farmer said another plot had been attacked by bunnies and he had to plant again. I arranged for an early time each day before the farm family and their dogs were up or out of the house, to come and weed..
As I inspected the plot I discovered a number of small pumpkin plants. I transplanted duplicates to other hills.
I’m noticing that my level of attention to the plot this year is drawing compliments, and improved support from the farmer. In earlier years I was less attentive and the plot drew less watering..
I was asked to get some edamame beans from the grocery store. I asked a store employee where they were… “Aisle 1”.
I remember grocery staff walking customers to where something is on the shelf, but that rarely happens these days.
As you can see “Aisle 1” is rather large.I walked from one end to the other and then a female customer walked by and I asked her is she knew where they were. She pointed to them right in front of her.
Taking a slight risk, and asking a stranger a good question can really make a difference.
