After a board meeting one evening, a friend and I waited for more than half an hour for Loni to pick us up. Her yoga class had gone longer than expected and they’d taken down the clocks.. It gave us a great chance to have the richest conversation in the 30+ years we’ve known each other.

It’s prompted a lot of family discussion.
Met a 15 year veteran of a department store.I loved the sense of freedom she conveyed… operated under. I asked her what the company does to keep her with them. She was quick with: getting full time hours, 5 weeks paid holidays, 10 sick days and having close relationships with many of the customers.
Talked to one of the volunteers at ‘The Friendly Octopus’ … thrift shop. Told me of life in Scotland back in the 60’s.. and their immigration to a Canadian winter in Saskatchewan… and how a dog cinched the deal that Canada was the right place to live in.
Spent about 3.5 hours waiting for Vancity help desk after their changeover to a new system. The final hour over two days, was so authentic as we uncovered 3 glitches their tech team was not aware of. This help desk staffer is working 10 hours day, yet bubbled over with appreciation, care and attention to detail.
