UVic Caring Project
Small things done with care .
A project by Christopher Bowers… Spiritual Care Provider with UVic’s Multifaith Centre
Our homes, neighbourhoods and wider communities could do with more caring acts. Having some examples can be helpful in becoming aware of different ways of engaging in caring actions, and prompting more ‘moments’ big or small.
How you can be involved — local action What was a caring moment you witnessed or experienced? We would love you to share written or video posts below. If you’d like some help with recording , contact us to have your story recorded ( video or audio). Here are some video examples from UVic and beyond. We also have an Instagram account, and Facebook Group that you’re welcome to contribute to.
A chance encounter across campus provided opportunities to give Will a hand with an item he left on the bus, and in turn he had a few minutes to share how he cares and supports individuals and groups with his unique skill set.

Neighbours that care
We dropped off a fresh pumpkin loaf in appreciation.
When I just arrived here from China, BC Services were so patient and humorous as well! Conversations with them on the phone was one of highlights during my 14-day quarantine.
On an early morning walk I spotted a neighbour who lives about five minutes away. We’ve talked a number of times over the years, usually while she’s walking her dog. Had a heartfelt chat about her daily walks and conversations with people in the neighbourhood, sometimes without her dog, but ending up with special, caring talks with others.
One woman who teaches at UVic especially has become like a daughter… and each of them can talk about anything, knowing it won’t go beyond that conversation.
When we ended our chat, she said, “So nice to see you.” I could feel she meant it.
Having that time with her really added to my morning walk.
Comforting can know no borders… When Roger heard of his friend’s loss across the world he reached out with a poem… little knowing that they next day he himself would pass in a wonderful fashion, preceeded with laughter with his wife at tea at their favourite tea shop.
