I was walking to the gym last night and heard music from my neighbors and the smell of beers everywhere. I wished I could go to a party…It ended to a party with a good friend and her people… unexpectedly. After the party, she gave me a ride home, She stayed overnight in my place and we had breakfast and nice chat/walk to the beach. Everything was perfect, i dont know why.
My Mobilizing Hope.com, first launched over 10 years ago is a video archive of stories that inspire. About a month ago I discovered I could no longer accept comments on posts. With some research I found the hpDiscuz plugin and added it. This didn’t resolve the issue but introduced me to their tech forum where engineers address issues their products are included on. They analyzed the problem and shared advice once a day. As I learned more, i updated mu forum posts and aeventually the problem was solved beautifully in a well researched by their engineers.
So grateful for this authentic, dependable support.
Steps taken by someone living in another city to find a place to live in Victoria, BC
Everything seems easy when you only mention the success! Here was my process: I reached out to you for recommendations and followed up with those hopefully. I also sifted carefully through ads found on Facebook Marketplace and responded to 1 or 2 of the best-looking ones – again, with specific hope that they would work out and some anxiety that they might not.
When those failed to go anywhere I was able to shift into a somewhat more detatched state of mind allowing for a kind of humble persistence that carried me through the rest of the process.
I spent a couple of nights combing through all the ads I could find and responding to all that seemed like they had some potential. In the process I developed several sentences about myself that I modified to better suit the vibe of individual posts. [I would have sent you them but they never settled into a definitive version.]
After that first big push, I could just check Marketplace once every day or two and go through any new postings (O-5 a day within my search parameters). In total I responded to, oh, 30+ ads? The majority went unanswered. Because I wasn’t in town I asked about virtual viewings and did a couple more of those – which were decent but I turned them down for different reasons. I also asked about in-person viewings on July 15 or 16 (when i’d planned to visit) and was able to set up 2 scheduled definites and 2 unscheduled iffy maybes in advance.
When I got to Victoria the maybes blossomed and grew into 4 definites. I was able to see 4 saturday evening and 2 more Sunday afternoon. The 3 least expensive were also my favourite. None was outstanding in every way but I went with the one that felt the most comfortable, all things considered.
At a conference at UVic I asked ‘What was a significant moment in your teaching career?’
Here’s one of them from a prof in Australia working in Conservation and Land Management. A group of ‘intellectually disabled’ students had been told by their previous teacher, who had quit while teaching the course, that they would never pass because they couldn’t read and write. Their new teacher’s approach made a world of difference.
Working it in the community
There were some new twists to my banking transaction at Vancity today. I had Jean Luc in the front pocket of my special pup-sweat shirt. As I was locking up my bike in front, the manager tapped on the wiindow and gave a friendly gesture towards Jean Luc. They renewed their connection a few days earlier.
When I entered the credit union today, I went to her office.. she was already coming towards me and welcomed being able to hold Jean Luc. She said, “You can do your transactions and come back.”
After the transaction I thought I’d go to a local grocery to see if I could spot a cashier I was talking to the day before. who needed some help finding a new job .
The manager who was on a speaker phone call, told me… “I’ll keep him”.
When I returned, the manager and Jean Luc were in the adjoining office. That staff member was loving her time with Jean Luc.
The manager said, “I couldn’t help it” . They both commented how stress reducing having a few minutes with Jean Luc was.
I said, “We’re all family.”
The pups are such a stand-out door opener. On our walk this afternoon we encountered this woman twice.. both had some pup engagement. Warmed up, she talked about her work in UVic libraries.. and how it fit with wanting to help people, and not be involved with making money from people. Lovely to hear of someone finding their path… in a setting they find beautiful and rewarding.
