A lesson in boundaries and order
The picture doesn’t tell the whole story. For a couple of years Loni has been wanting a clean treatment between the driveway and our front food forest. We’d considered lots of options but they seemed cumbersome or not easily attainable. The other day I decided to go to Van Isle Water for some irrigation parts.. While there I saw this product and after researching and conferring, I installed it today. It’s a composite product, made in Canada, easy to install and will last a long time. Patience, curiosity and open perspectives yield creative solutions.
Yesterday I got another friend into my favourite bike shop at the last minute .. He asked me about his rear wheel which wasn’t spinning smoothly but couldn’t see anything rubbing .. I called Dan who was at the shop and my friend stopped by 10 mins later – minor adjustment no charge …
My friend just put in a pile of work at Woodland to prep for listing which was amazing to have someone so helpful do a pile of small things and great to help a friend with two kids who can’t work in events right now
Jordan got the last kilometres out of his rear wheel .. great opportunity for me to keep things going with my bike shop even when I’m not in the city .. and Jordan pays $110 instead of $160
I agree with recognizing what went well .. sometimes that’s just being grateful something wasn’t a real disaster.
My challenges are almost always situations I’m lucky to be in that lead to other benefits.
Even when things fully go wrong I have what I need to sort it out .. whether that’s money or knowing the right person I’ve built up goodwill with there’s usually a two for one in the solution
For example fixing something that broke but also relationship building .. keeping that goodwill feedback loop going by bringing business to the same person is a fave .. When other people I know have bike problems it’s an opportunity to talk to my bike shop owner more, and that always gets me something.
I showed you that amazing scooter with antler steering .. turns out it was made by a guy up the street who we’ve wanted to meet anyway because he has a cool collection of vehicles including multiple land cruisers …. Our contractor’s first choice of a fabricator to make a hatch to access the stairs down to our crawl space was too busy but his second choice tuned out to be that same fella who lives just up the street!
I got to meet him yesterday and he asked about my Cruiser and said to tell him if I need anything welded and the next big thing for that truck is a rear bumper but I would have had to order a pricey kit from the States and still find a welder so instead I can keep my money super local and get a great way to meet neighbours.
Thanks to my darling daughter Lola for picking my favourite flowers this morning.
