What went well today is that we wanted to have a baby shower for our daughter, and with no face-to-face gatherings possible, a virtual shower was something we wanted to try. I had some ideas for some games, but no idea how they would work on Zoom, or how 12 people would be able to visit all together on one screen. People came from Toronto, Australia, London, Comox Valley as well as locally. We were able to screen share some games and a name that baby song game video that we created. All of the guests were able to figure out how to use the drawing tool and play baby pictionary.
Fortunately she has great friends, Sam Graham, Robyn Ford, among them, and they totally joined in
everything and made it all work.
Error messages are not what they seem
Great Grandpa Fred is good with text messages, but can’t talk on the phone because it isn’t loud enough. More volume needed.
So I hacked together some wood bits, an iPad, and a pair of $10 used computer speakers (with a big volume knob) into a FaceTime station, and it works. He can hear it fine and now can communicate in sound and vision again.
I am thankful that iPads still have the 3.5mm headphone jack so speakers can just plug in.
Late night tech support…
In reassembling the computer, one small screw fell on the floor. I swept the area and Loni found the screw.
What’s gone well: I took all my soft plastic bags down to the recycle depot 5 minute from my house and some large cardboard pieces. I see they take textiles to reclaim and recycle now.
Oh, oh, Mercy mercy me
