Today I went shopping. What I am noticing is the politeness and genuine care people are taking to give other shoppers space to shop. The cashiers from behind screens, are still so friendly and willing to help. More people are saying hello from a distance. I am involved in making motions for the condo AGM on May 9th and interviewed a prospective gardener this morning. As we went to meet I naturally held out my hand to shake his. Then I laughed and said “Aren’t we creatures of habit!” He laughed too.
Conversations Changes Lives… I was contemplating what to do about Green Drinks, a monthly mixer I’ve run for 13 years now that face-to-face meetings are not allowed. I wrote to two long standing members and one wrote back suggesting we make it a Zoom conferencing event. We talked on the phone about it and he mentioned some features that I didn’t know my Zoom account had. I looked around, saw what’s possible and now we’re on track to a new generation of a good idea.
The thing that really seems to be going well is that the express train heading for a brick wall that is our civilization has had some serious braking.
Working on a special project, I ran into software glitches. I did some research and other software said they could do it better. Just before purchasing it, I decided to contact the help desk of the original software… Turns out I’d missed some updates. They assured me that the new upgrades had addresses the problem I was running into . I was also able to find my certificate for premium membership that I had purchased years ago. A big help.
The self-isolation has been a surprising blessing. Needed sleep has happened. Time to organize my life. Meals with my adult children every night. We are connecting and despite the anxiety that emerges, we have time to talk together without rushing to the next thing. With the loss my their mother and my beloved wife last year, in our mourning, we are closer together than ever. Whatever happens, we know we have each other.
My son Randy made my day by standing outside my window and talking with me from a distance. We had to shout of course, and hope that did not bother anyone else within hearing. I also can communicate with my children by email. So all things considered, I think we are a very lucky family under the present circumstances.
