Reflecting on my self isolation: It has been awesome. My HelloFresh food delivery keeps me fed. As does God.
Been very busy with communications all days and evenings pretty much, via phone, email, Zoom, and text ….so barely notice being here by myself. I expect this to taper off however.
Appreciate some people taking an interest and being in touch .
A few years ago I bought a beautiful bathroom vanity LED fixture with a 5 years guarantee from McLaren Electric, the primo provider in town. After our latest tenant left I notice it was only 50% functioning. McLaren shut down their showroom because of the Kovid crisis. I was able to contact the manufacturer in the States from info on the light.. and they said I must deal with McLaren. Turns out only the showroom is down.. there’s a backdoor to the warehouse for electricians. I phoned and they will order this in for me and replace it.
Invited to a Board Meeting for input on a Kovid -based decision. The chair later thanked me for coming, saying I was an ‘elder statesman’ in the best sense. Loved the opportunity, and the sentiment.
Helping give some furniture, etc away for a friend who’s moving. Also interesting meeting the people who actually show up for ‘the gold’, in this case a chest of drawers, and a file cabinet. If we hadn’t helped it would have been turfed.
I see that people of all level of means troll the ‘free stuff’ listings.
Learned later that a lot of seniors are scooping these free things and then selling them from their own ads. Some say they polish them up a bit and then resell. I had no idea. This guy said it was for his son.
Another person who was interested in one of the items he picked up, told be about his gig. Seniors augmenting pensions.
It’s late March in 1978 – living in Saskatoon – unemployed – chronic pain 24 hours a day – crippled and on crutches since January –– severely depressed – drugs and alcohol – felt like the end –
I’m driving along Broadway – big wide streets – first day of spring – everything is melting after a long cold brutal winter walking home in -40 below on crutches – I begin to realize that the snow was almost gone – I’m just going by Buds on Broadway home of rhythm and blues – subletting at this gigantic water puddle of water in the middle of the street – big huge torrent of water goes up on the car and on my windshield – at that exact moment suddenly I hear Bruce Springsteen come on the radio – Born to Run – I had heard the song before, but somehow it was different this time – I was hearing things notes that I’d never heard before – suddenly realized that I was pain-free for the first time in about three months – somehow everything else seems to lighten up – I discovered it was actually possible to feel good again. Three months later, I had a job, I was off the crutches and rapidly healing, almost pain-free pain was getting less and less each day, able to walk a bit further every day, reconnecting with old friends and some new ones, making plans for the future, moved into a better house with a great roommate, and the next two years were probably the best two years of my entire life. To this day I still mark this as a turning point: Bruce Springsteen, born to run, and that gigantic mud puddle on the first day of spring. It’s what else can I say? At the point of greatest darkness, the eye begins to see. –
Love our forest walks twice a day. Early spring is so beautiful, with so much to see, peacefully.
