Moving past the initial response for the deeper story
7:45 on a dark, damp morning at UVic. A fellow with handbag and old school fedora walks silently ahead of me. My question, ” What is your responsibility here? drew a first response of ‘take care of the microphones.” Staying with him it turns out he’s a librarian, been with UVic for 43 years and is retiring in March. He grew up here, saw the university being built, was a student, got a part time job in the library, took all the formal degrees and has enjoyed the ride…
All of this from a silence that a was broken between strangers..
For me the value was a deeper insight in this senior’s life, the beauty of the winter’s day by the water, hearing of the freedom of renting.
Getting outside our comfort zone promotes growth and inspiration
Was invited to go to the gym, 15 minutes away by bike. It was raining pretty heavily but I headed out in my rain gear. It was exhilarating. It reminded me of a friend’s husband kayaking off Quadra Island shouting ‘I’m alive’ as he sliced through the water.

Today it felt like a shower of blessings… I got that feeling of the unending stream of what God is sending us, that no amount of words on a page could convey or shift my thinking to .
Had been looking for a document with contact info for some time. Then I remembered I had a personal cheque from the client which had an email address I needed. This allowed me to contact the client and opened up a a great line of communication. Two weeks later I found the original document filed with totally unrelated papers. Great to have all things in their right place.
Each contact we make with friends counts
Phoned an elder friend to invite her to a movie. Another friend had rated it 10/10. She declined as she only wants to watch uplifting stories. Her mother’s big questions,” Who’s talking? and What are you listening to?”
She was so appreciative of the phone call.
Each time I make the effort to phone or talk to someone I learn new aspects of their experience. Sometimes this new knowledge comes in their email reply.
