I took this question of what teacher stood out, and used it as a FB status update. It has prompted some lovely stories.
Today she was able to do some review questions with them on her own. When they ran into some more complex questions I was able to help. One of the key strategies is to draw a normal curve with all the info given. Picturing what a situation is and what information you are asked to find, helps us decide what steps to take next. It made a tremendous difference, and ‘the penny dropped’ for the student.
For my sixtieth birthday, my son said he wanted to do a road trip to California together, culminating in a birthday celebration at my daughter and her husband’s place in Fairfax. So we set out on the road and for three days we travelled down the coast, spending more time together than we had in a long time. We stayed at some fancy places, and we ate picnics on the beach. We drove through sunshine, and we had hours of pissing rain. We talked for hours, and then we had long quiet times. We were driving, eating, walking, hiking, talking, tasting wine, or just sitting watching the world go by, and it was a great. We arrived in Fairfax and had a big barbecue with the rest of the family and what I remember most was all the laughing we did.
I was bold today when standing outside a choir room… A pack of parents had decided not to open the audition room door for fear of interrupting…. I opened the door when my daughters group started singing, I wanted to hear her (it was amazing). Today if I had followed the pack I would have missed the sweet sounds of my daughter performing on a path of her own boldness
