I seldom drive at night, but coming home one evening recently the dashboard lights all went off as soon as I put the headlights on. I fiddled with the switch a bit, but the dial remained dark. The next day I noticed a little symbol at the side of the now-lit dash – it looked a bit like a grenade. The Owners’ Manual was consulted, and said that symbol meant “light switch off”. I knew that, so drove to the service department of the dealer and told the pretty, apple-cheeked young woman with big hands about it. She confidently said “Oh yes, may I have your keys?” So we both went out to my car, which she turned on and saw the little grenade. “Likely the gas cap is loose” she commented as she unlocked it then went out to look. The tank cap was very loose so she tightened it, closed the cover, and restarted the engine again while I was trying to think of the right question to ask about the headlights being attached to the gas cap. She said the symbol might stay on for a few days, and please phone her for an appointment if the headlights turned the dash lights off again.
I’m very happy that this was so quick and easy, but still think that the evolution of private cars isn’t quite finished.
Always a first time. A humbling moment. Early this morning I decided to plant some red onions. After planting a first row I had wondered if I was planting them the right way. I researched and found a picture on line which said which way was up, and which was the root. Research!
I am very grateful and thankful for all the help I have been given.
