When I was out and about I got a text inviting me to
spend some time with my garden consultant. Lots of learning there, and then he gave me an extra composter for my daughter. I delivered it to her and we had a great chat about some important issues. Really felt a shift in her understanding from the discussion.
Before going to Vancouver, I contacted a friend I’ve known from high school but I rarely meet up with, to see if we could have a chat. I got there a bit early and he graciously made time in his office. We had a wonderful , far ranging conversation, perhaps one of our best! It fit in beautifully to my day of being footloose with only two appointments to keep.
Unique Mother’s Day gift
A grandmother raising two demanding ‘tweens is often impressed by what they do, say or notice.. how they engage with their world in such different ways.
We came up with a unique present idea. She would collect 4 or 5 of these ideas or experiences, write them in a little book, wrap it up and share it with them as their gift for her. An example was one boy said, ” The rain is making the vanilla leaves dance.” What a unique observation! They looked out the kitchen window, and it was true.
This is a way of acknowledging their gifts, their genius, their unique perspectives.
At 10:30 Sunday night I went outside when we saw activity outside an empty house beside us. I greeted our new neighbour is from Saudi, via Saskatchewan. The next evening he dropped over when I was out.. and I knocked on his door when I got home. He had some large moving boxes on his porch which he didn’t need. I put them on FreeCycle and someone came within an hour to pick them up.
Since then we’ve had some great exchanges and lots of laughter.
One of our Thrifties cash cards went missing at our home. After a few days of looking, we contacted customer services and Andrea began to help. She was so patient, caring, pleasant and thorough — showing her interest in making things right. When I brought new information up, she made further inquiries, which resulted in my getting a phone call from another store and a new cash card being set up with my current balance of almost $300 added to it. I heard later that Andrea had worked for Thrifties for about 25 years.. What an asset!
