What’s Gone Well Today? ®

Recently I sat down to some spiritually uplifting prayer time in connection with a position I hold at my church.
Whilst I did that, my husband sallied forth to cash a small cheque at the bank… since I needed the twenty dollars in cash.
He arrived home a short time later, having done the banking and stopped at his favourite coffee shop.
But he was without the cash (well, he did have the odd 27 cents.) In the process of pulling his coffee gift card out of his pocket, he had apparently dropped the twenty dollar bill either on the street or in the shop.
I had been engaged in prayerful activity during the time he was away, and to that I attribute the fact that my thought process was not quite what one would expect.
More quickly that I can describe, three things shot through my consciousness:
That our fellow beings are without exception created honest, with full integrity at all times
That our supply was only represented by the cash – God is the source of true supply for all
That just maybe a passer-by was in fact in greater need of twenty dollars at that moment than we were
Something else stood out – in similar domestic situations in the past, it has been my regrettable tendency to chastise my dear husband for carelessness. In this case, there was absolutely no temptation to do so, and it was not an effort of teeth-grinding will-power. Just felt right.
My husband phoned the coffee shop to advise them in case the money were found, and we sat down to eat lunch.
The phone rang. It was the coffee shop staff, to say that the bill was found and turned in. And there’s more: when he called, my husband had forgotten to leave contact details –
but during lunch hour, the busy staff had remembered that he’d paid with a gift card, and had taken the trouble to look up his details and phone right away.
Not just one thing “went right” that day.
Angel at the counter
… recently in Victoria we experienced freezing-rain-sidewalks … a block away from home and a few more to go before reaching my destination I thought, “what a crazy idea to be out here, walking– slip-sliding-away on shear ice!! But I stubbornly kept going. After picking up my groceries I thought, “I just can’t walk home … no way!” I now was in the pharmacy and asked Gordon to please call a taxi for me.”
No luck, all 3 cab lines were busy! Behind me someone said, “oh, do you need a ride home?” An Angel answered my prayer!
I was SO grateful and still am so very grateful
I had a nice chat with a PhD student in the biology consulting company my landlady introduced me to. Out of blue and he showed me his PhD work that was what exactly what I needed to know for an upcoming meeting that my coach, set me up with a retired prof, still very active with environmental issues.
Now that prof is going to introduce me to more researchers. I feel knowing more people and having more connections will help me find my dream job, as a researcher.
These next steps feel close to me. I feel my beautiful job. My map/puzzle is getting completed. Everything is perfect.
A few moments with a stranger
I gave her my card and a few hours later she sent me an email that included,
“We talked about how I wished to be a fantasy author. I wanted to also say thank you for simply talking to me. Knowing a complete stranger is so kind to engage with my interests and just listen has kept me smiling during my shift. “
My story begins when my landlady invited me to have tea with her friends last summer. I wasn’t sure about going, but accepted. When i was there i talked about my life and then learned more about my lovely landlady. She used to work as a biologist for the Ministry of Environment.
In that moment I was looking for a volunteering job in ecology/forestry areas to get more familiar with ecosystem and forestry in BC.
My landlady emailed me a link of a company that trains stewards for Land Protection. I sent them my resume and went there in person to show my passion. I would love to get an interview and finally join them.
