When the penny drops
Not gardening alone
There are also a few cats in our neighborhood, and there is one that frequently visits our yard. His name is Orio. Yesterday he came by as I was clearing up a couple of piles of garden trimmings in the back yard. He walked over to me, I greeted him, and he then sat nearby, and watched me and the world go by. After a few moments he found a sunny spot to absorb the sun’s rays. He watched me and the birds that perched on the trees, and I would stop and pet him every now and then, letting him know that I appreciated his company and what did he think of things.
Soon the piles were all bagged. Next was watering the potted plants on the front porch. I let Orio know what I was going to do and asked if he was coming too. He was just sitting and started to wash himself, so I left him to it.
As I watered the plants, Orio shows up and hangs out with me. He jumped up on the small wicker bench we have and made himself comfortable while I filled the watering can and watered the pansies and daffodils. When I finished, I joined him on the bench. We sat together, watched people go by (with or without dogs), and listened to the birds, squirrels, and the breeze. It was a lovely springtime afternoon, all the better for having company while doing garden chores.
What a beautiful afternoon. Such a charming story!
“My wife”… They first met in highschool and got married later at university. I asked what been a secret to 68 years of marriage. “Choosing a good woman.”
He’s also grateful for still being able to drive. So much gratitude in one conversation, initially sparked by a potted flower.
I gave him one of my “You Made My Day” cards.. which are designed to be payed forward at some point, and suggested he might give it to his wife on her upcoming birthday.
Our daughter came over. I love the eye and the help she provides.I took four large containers of prunings to civic garden drop off yard. Giving space for growth.. Later I wrote, “Your quiet gardening help is invaluable.. I cleaned up and removed all pruning.. ready for your next appearance.”
I was cared about by my coworkers and managers of the store I work at.
They all are looking for a good place for me to rent
