A first.. Another couple joined us on Zoom to play a favourite game called Codenames. The lessons learned from using it in a tutoring context were really handy. It worked as just as well as being in person.
Enjoyed the collaboration in developing a new model for an event I’ve hosted monthly for 13 years. I so appreciated the input I received that has helped shape a new model.
I am grateful for a lot of good experiences in my life, But just recently I realized I needed to express more gratitude about handling the constant isolation that sometimes seems rather frustrating, I mean I had a very active life style before this entire CODE-19 pandemic came about,The politicians and news media constantly tells us to keep our distance, stay home go out occasionally, and of course all recreation, schools entertainment parks restaurants and coffee shops are closed. So it really put a an abrupt end to all my social activities. I was often at a loss as to how I was handling this new unexpected change in my life. My apartment was unusually quiet I hardly saw anyone for about 6 weeks due to the isolation factor where notices were put everywhere to remind the tenants about CODE-19 and how we were to conduct ourselves. So I decided to express gratitude instead of being frustrated and disappointed.
So inspiring to hear of two musicians who have diversified their talents to make viable business endeavours that are meeting people’s needs right now, despite these challenging times which saw their main stream of income end.
People are doing amazing things.
This morning I decided to drive across the road to the garden shop to purchase 3 large bags of prepared potting soil. When I arrived at the store they had trolleys so I inquired, that as I lived across the road, may I use it to take the bags to the building. The girl looked a little skeptical and asked how long before I returned it. The shop assistant then decided to roll the trolley to the building for me. When we arrived at the entrance door, I opened it and was prepared to either unload or take it to the elevator and unload. Suddenly she said, “I’m not supposed to do this but “shhh”, fingers to her lips. She then rolled the trolley to the elevator, asked would I be able to do the rest and loaded the 3 bags inside. She then kept saying “shhh” with her fingers to her lips.
after putting the bags in my condo, I went across the road and drove the car home.
So although I was happy that my speech arts students had gotten to perform for the very early festival in Nanaimo, I couldn’t help being somewhat disappointed that they will miss performing in our own Victoria festival which or course, has been cancelled now. I sent an email to my colleague, friend and supporter, teacher and adjudicator, Debbie McGladdery, to see how she was doing with it all. In her lovely response, she asked me if I would be willing to participate in an on line Poetry Wheel Festival that she is organizing, by giving feedback to some students who had put recordings of themselves on line. At the same time, she extended the invitation to my students to send in their poetry performances for feedback. She also offered the chance to give feedback to two of my more senior students. This such a great opportunity. These two students have both taken a student this year and now they will have a chance to try out adjudicating or at least giving feedback to some younger students. I have only seen two of the poems so far, and both of them are fantastic. The students have worked so hard and now at least they will get some responses.
