A UVic workstudy student was an interesting collaborator. I demonstrated a short engagement with some international students ( 8 minutes long).. and then she took the lead about eleven times with subsequent groups of up to 15 students. We tweaked it a bit as we went along. She adapted it quickly and skillfully. The groups of students seemed to really appreciate it. Although I love taking the lead rather than sitting back and just watching a presentation, it was cool to lightly help tweak it as we went along, and have it be so successful.
In this rainy and cold season, I especially miss the warm taste of my hometown. I bought a Chinese cabbage, divided it into six parts and boiled it , put it into a glass bottle with cold boiled water , then put in 20g salt. Then I fermented it at room temperature for 20 days. I am looking for Chinese pickles. I will make some special hotpot with it.
Yesterday, I went to a farm on Interurban and visited Julia and Richard.
They are running a house on a farm. The house is very simple but they decorated
the house well with some Chinese crafts. They rent the house to anyone who
would like to host a party or a meeting. They can provide meal and drink. This is a
beautiful place, I like it.
Today, I wrote my first Chem 11 test. Leading up to it I was lacking confidence as it is not my strongest subject. But while I was writing, I realized I knew more than I thought. It came more naturally to me than I expected and I was pleasantly surprised. I got a grade higher than expected and it was a lovely way to start my day. I’m feeling more confident in myself and am looking forward to tackling the next unit.
Really enjoyed walking around our immediate neighbourhood with some info about a community development, and an invitation to get together and talk about it further. Such good opportunity to make deeper connections with neighbours.
