Reality check
I’ve lived in our home for about 9 years, and changed the furnace filter many times. Somehow with a number of service calls, etc the order of the door panels was changed over the years. Tonight I checked it out on a YouTube maintenance video and saw the right configuration. Big help!
So I am walking down Johnson St. heading up to Quadra one morning last week when a man who appears a bit menacing (looks are usually misleading I find) stops in front of me.He says that he doesn’t like the look of my face. I smile and reply: “There must be something to it, Bro, that’s the second time today. The first was when I looked in the mirror before shaving and said to myself: “I don’t like the look of that face’ “. The man burst out laughing and said: “I like you.” He then extended his hand which I shock and clapped me on the back with a force that might have been a touch too much for a 79 year old with a weak knee. But who’s complaining. Not me.
Spoken by a man who’s experienced, professionally, at defusing difficult situations. Thanks for sharing this… I laughed and laughed.
I have a strong love for my home and my neighbourhood. Development, with little or no consultation is concerning. This morning I awoke dreaming of it. And opening my mail found three helpful, and heartfelt ideas to support safe growth.
This is going to be a good day.
I heard a person tell his story on the Evening News. He formerly lived on the street and reminded us , “Home is love, and includes a healthy physical and social space. Our house need not be huge”.
Then I was reminded of the grasses, and the trees with their root systems, that support the land our homes sit on. The Native Gary Oak mingled with their neighbours, Poplar, Birch. Maple, Pine and Fir and many more. The air we breathe, and the water we drink working together for our world.
I am so grateful for my morning dream. It’s brought me into an active awareness.
It was a pleasure talking with you Christopher. Hope the stair runners work out great!
A neighbour had a smart e-car as a loaner. For one reason or the other he didn’t know how to start or drive it. A house mate of his contacted me and we were able to get him ‘in gear’. The process to start, change gears, etc is not intuitive. Great fun. It was another opportunity to practice my teaching skills. They are so useful.
We hosted a Christmas lightup for our neighbours. We had people come who’d never taken part. Great to see the fresh connections in the ‘hood between people who had not talked in the nine years we’ve been here , or even met before. Discovered new capacities one person had.
