What’s Gone Well Today? ®
Here’s an easy way to recognize others… and in turn change how we look at our day, and our life.
When has someone made your day with the service they’ve given, or something they’ve said or done for you? Sharing these moments may inspire others. They lift the spirit!
On another note asking someone What’s Gone Well Today? ®, becomes life-changing. Conversations have a fresh, inspiring perspective.
In the larger picture our tools help individuals and organizations become more empathetic. We would love to hear from you! Please share an experience that’s gone well in your day.

Honestly, every time someone working at a grocery till is cheerful, it encourages me deeply – it lights up my day and makes me want to go do whatever I’m doing even better. They’re not really selling me anything – I’ve already picked out what I want – and it would seem so easy for them to just stay even-keeled and uninterested in me – just get the job done and move on. But sometimes the person is just genuinely appreciative of my presence, passing as it is, and send me off feeling…really encouraged about life. It’s happened more times than I can count.
A recent victory…
A mother asked me to tutor her daughter in math. On the surface they look well-to-do.
But as the months went on, it became apparent that the parents had issues in their lives that prevented them from having much input into the daughter’s life. She often had no transportation, missed appointments and I was paid only intermittently. The
separated parents had out of town obligations and she was falling through the cracks.
The contrast between what our own daughter had in the way of input and attention was staggering. This girl, though bright as could be, had not passed math since early elementary school. She cancelled at the last minute frequently, which was
a real hassle for me. During the summer I tried to coordinate car trips near her neighbourhood, with giving her a ride for tutoring. I was admonished for doing too much for her, but I keep thinking of that saying, “If you are going to catch a horse,
you might have to run alongside it for awhile”. One day my husband and I suggestedthat we bike to her place and she could get her bike and bike with us to my house for tutoring. She loved it and really sees how great it is to take only 15 minutes, instead of 45 by bus, or an hour walking. She has been biking to tutoring, and appreciating the independence it gives her. We are half way through math 10 now, although we have had to catch up on many basics including times table, divisibility rules, integers, etc.
She sent a text the other day, asking about a complicated factoring problem. I gave her the answer by text, but when I saw her and asked where she got the question, she said,
“I was looking ahead in the book because when you start to ‘get it’, it’s kind of fun”
There are always things that stand out in the year and this year it was a little boy’s dad who came to talk to me at the end of the year. He came to thank me because his son had a great year and he is so grateful because there were many times in the past that he had trouble getting him to go to school in the morning. I will always remember this little boy’s excitement when he said, “Ms Newton, we are having too much fun, I am going to go and tell the principal on you!!” The beaming smile on his face has stayed with me all summer!
