What’s Gone Well Today? ®
Here’s an easy way to recognize others… and in turn change how we look at our day, and our life.
When has someone made your day with the service they’ve given, or something they’ve said or done for you? Sharing these moments may inspire others. They lift the spirit!
On another note asking someone What’s Gone Well Today? ®, becomes life-changing. Conversations have a fresh, inspiring perspective.
In the larger picture our tools help individuals and organizations become more empathetic. We would love to hear from you! Please share an experience that’s gone well in your day.
Dairy Queen was giving away free ice cream today, and I decided to stop by. I assumed the girls at the cash register have had a busy day, meeting many new people, so I asked them “what is something you have learned today?” One girl said that she learned that no matter how exhausted and tired, we all make the conscious decision whether to be happy or not. She said that the “power of a positive attitude is an amazing thing.”
After a very tough winter, there are so many good things it’s hard to pick just one, so I’ll just list a few from yesterday …. Got to make sandwiches for a friend who has a market stall. She paid me $20 and gave me free aioli. Then we used that $20 to buy sushi for my son and he was over joyed. Add to that a gorgeous pre blizzard sunny day, perfect for snow shoeing, followed by movie time, and it was a perfect day.
When cleaning out our garage we found two wire racks. I advertised them in Freecycle and someone wanted them by the end of the day.
Today I was introduced to my friends new roommate. I learned that she works two jobs and attends class at Camosun College. I thought this was quite impressive so I asked “How do you prepare to maximize your day?” She told me that every morning before getting out of bed she compiles a mental “to do list” so that she knows what needs to be accomplished that day and the priority of each task. If there are several things she writes the list down as soon as she gets up in order to keep her on task and focused. Good tip, I might have to try this one day.
Drawing out the bigger picture
Asked a peer who joined my project group for a class on Southeast Asia “How does this fit with your life or career plan?” She said that she is actually an Asia studies major and plans to work / volunteer in the region someday. She said the class helps her not only understand the problems she will address when there, but also the natural diversity and beauty of the region.
Turning the tables at an interview
Recently went to an undergraduate counselor to plan out my graduation, and I asked her “What is an area of your life that you want to improve?” She said that she doesn’t get involved in the community and on campus outside of her job, so she wants to volunteer more to end the trend. Maybe even become a traveler!
