I met Tony when he wondered by where I was sitting in the SUB at UVic. We began a great conversation.. including his sharing a key to his happy life.
Freedom from long term weekly commitments leads to deeper dedication and exploration in creating readings for our church service in California.
Help with connections
After several weeks of minor problems, happily today something went well. It looked like I would be able to leave my household over Christmas, and so be able to visit my Edmonton family this year. But I seemed unable to order the airline tickets online. So I called an invincible, capable friend to help me. He was at the door in an hour, and after working some snags out, such as an invalid password, I had the flight information all arranged and printed from my laptop. I made a phone call to the Edmonton family, who were more than polite in their welcome! A local friend wants to drive me to the airport, and a daughter told me what kind of quilted, lined checked shirts to get everyone – and ear rings for the girls. All this is a day-brightener, for which I’m grateful.
A journalist nudged to take action
Went the Belfry’s Rez Sisters play.At intermission I met a fellow with a jaunty captain’s cap. We chatted more after the show. He said that he was a retired journalist, formerly writing for a Chicago paper. Now living in Port Angeles, a friend there had told him he must travel to Victoria to see Rez Sisters. He was going to write a review on for a Chicago paper. He was very impressed with how important the show, the story was.
In a way he was part of the story of the night.
On my early morning walkabout, I ran into a friend doing a bike user count. Learned a lot about local politics from talking with him.
Later I went into a university building and saw a poster for a movie being shown at Cinecente on campus that we’d wanted to see, and have time to, on a busy weakend.
Over an hour later I returned to find him still ‘counting’ and recorded his thoughts about being a ‘traveler in your own town.’ Brought out fresh value I hadn’t thought of.
All this from being curious.
The bushes / hedge at the entrance of our strata property had been needing a trim for some time. I asked other strata members to help and most, including a renter came out. It was done within 20 minutes and news, including the birth of a new girl, was exchanged and introductions made. It all looks so much better. Loved the spirit! Similar to Tom Sawyer and the white washing of the fence. We made it look like so much fun!
