“That’s a mystery, isn’t it! ”
Made me think of ‘The Magical Mystery Tour”.. I felt quite assured that either going or coming back I would be rewarded, find value . And I was… It was a magical conversation.
Exploration, connection, learning and inspiration
Riding home from downtown with an almost empty bus. Shortly a fellow sits facing me with headphones on not looking up. Eventually he did a couple of times momentarily and I gestured to him to unplug.I asked if he was going to school.. He’d just completed his Masters, and was returning to Zambia tomorrow. We had a wonderful talk about hope, Africa, options and next steps for the country and himself. He had a wonderful presence about him. Many of his friends have similar aspirations.
I told him of a former student of mine who I first met when another teacher asked if there was anything I could do with him. He went on to great things.. and that he reminded me of that student.
Evidence of care and support
Walking on the path to UVic I saw a young woman crouching … I saw that she was lifting small worms onto a leaf. This is one of the evidences of compassion and support for life from my morning ‘travels.’
A few minutes later as I left the path, we waved goodbye.. Connections often start with empathy.
