One of my advisors asked if I had time to meet. I contemplated doing it on Skype… but decided to bus downtown and be in person. Great decision! There’s something so special about face to face — way more surprises, energy, opportunity and laughter.

We hosted a wedding dinner for our daughter and husband in our home. We created a slideshow of their growing up and turned it into a 4 minute movie. We shared it with people at their Vancouver and Victoria dinners, as well as invitees who couldn’t attend.
We’ve received glowing responses.
“That was amazing! I enjoyed that so much.”
“Oh, its such a dear video of your daughter and family growing up, brought tears to my eyes! I’m so sorry I missed your celebration with everyone yesterday but
my thoughts were with you. Thanks so much for sharing this video.”
“I absolutely loved it!!!!”
An elderly neighbour with an orchard phoned me while I was attending to our pumpkin patch. She bought a professional tall apple picking ladder that was so stable. She asked if I’d thin her apples on several of her large trees. She offered the opportunity of sharing the harvest of these trees, plus some of her wonderful raspberries. A deal indeed. I started at 6:30 am and left by 7:45.
Saw a father and camp counsellor helping a young girl start her day at the camp. Then talked to the single father and heard a lot about his late-fathering experience and the lengths he’s going to, to do it right. I was not that surprised that the conversation went deep so quickly. People often appreciate my taking a risk and really listening to their story. It’s a moving experience most every time

I did record it.. so I can revisit, and develop more of the ideas. So the conversation continues!
I used cardboard sheets to mulch a rich pumpkin garden bed, where weeds can run wild. It’s pretty clear the labour saved by the cardboard.
We came back a month later.. and the cardboard indeed was very effective. I am going to expand it.
