It’s amazing how what you can achieve in a small community 🙂 I have been meeting lots of many like minded people. It’s beautiful how you can feel at home not being at what most people consider to be home. Victoria, even though it’s far from my family has always felt that way and now I am proud to say; I am a Victorian 🙂
No further words passed between us until we reached Nanaimo when she excitedly nudged me and pointing to a high rise on the horizon inquired as to it whereabouts. I told her that it was a residence right on the harbour. This led to a brief conversation from which I learned that for the past 3 years she had been battling cancer of the eye unsuccessfully in her right eye but with partial success on her left. The previous Friday bandages were removed and she had sight for the first time in two years and decided to visit Nanaimo a destination she had not visited in a decade or so. On our approach to the bus depot we swung by the marina and she was overwhelmed by the beauty of it all, the bright sun, the blue sea, everything changed. Tears began to stream down her cheeks and she reached out and held my hand.
Soon the bus stopped, we alighted and said our good byes and as she walked to the cab stand she turned and said: “Thank you for a wonderful time.” No more need be said.
Enjoy the season,
Woodwynn Farms needs permission from the municipality of Central Saanich to build a dormitory for up to 96 residents who would be learning to recognize their better selves, learning marketable skills, and how to get along with their neighbours. The staff and residents get together 3 times a day to eat and discuss progress, problems and solutions. Farmers rise early, and those at Woodwynn Farm do the same. Each day includes yoga, discussion of the best qualities to use for an assigned task, such as honesty, compassion, respect , and hard work, Therapeutic Farms in Europe are known to be life-changing for 70% – successful in re-integrating skilled people into the work force.
We all want to go back another month to share a meal and chat. When the weather warms up, we hope to go there for a tour, or to take a look at the Farm Market that happens Tues to Sat, from 10-4, near the West Saanich Rd Gate. I’m grateful that my fellow cooks were also well-suited to contributing to meaningful conversations. A good time was had by all. We 3 want to do it again!
