Shelly really, really likes working with youth and is very interested in helping them:
Shelly’s first job as a teen was working in a donut shop she made jelly donut’s and made enough Money to buy her first car at 17 years old. Shelly became a bartender in her early years of becoming a woman. She grew tired of the drunken men’s problems so after her job as a bartender she wanted to become a counselor. Shelly and her partner, Paul, could not have children so Shelly really enjoys her job and the time she spends working with young adults. Shelly has attended school for at least 44 years. Shelly, I love you thanks for being such a great person 😛
Some of the things we learned about Shelly.
Shelly Hollingshead is a counselor at Robron Centre; today we interviewed her and learned there is a lot more to her than we knew.
Her first job was a ‘jelly jammer’ at a Bakery. She made good money at the Bakery and was able to save and buy a car at age 17. But it was really boring because she did the same thing every day. Her next job was as a bartender at a fancy hotel in Saskatoon called the Library. She learned that she liked talking to people and helping them with their problems.
Shelly was influenced by her mom. Her brother and sister are also close to her. Her passion is lavender and she had a company called “Dilly Dilly Lavender’. She gave this up because her work was too busy.
Shelly has some strategies to be positive. She doesn’t bring her personal life to school; she visualizes leaving her problems out side of school – actually in the passenger seat of her car.
Shelly Hollingshead really enjoys helping other people. In her early years she lived in a one parent home with her mother. Shelly’s mother and extended family influenced her the most. She went on a band trip and got caught drinking vodka; she got sent home immediately and had really disappointed her mother. Shelly just barley skimmed through high school, but with the help of good teachers she managed to graduate. Her first job was working as a jelly jammer and bought her first car. Then she worked as a bartender in a bar called the Library. it was while she was working in the bar when she realized that she actually wanted to be a counselor. Shelly moved from Saskatoon to Campbell River for a man and he broke her heart by breaking up with her. After that she got together with Paul and they have been together for 25 years but they do not want to get married. If they had kids then they might get married, but they can’t have kids. Shelly also worked as a senior’s home aide. She owned her own business called “Dilly, Dilly Lavender.” But she had to stop because she couldn’t balance her business and coming to school as a counselor, and she would rather come to school. When she retires she may return to her lavender business. Shelly loves coming to work at school everyday and always has a big smile on her face.
Shelly owned her own soap business called Dilly, Dilly, Lavender. She was a jelly jammer and with that job she bought her first car. Shelly, even though stayed as a Jelly Jammer for a year, she thought it was quite boring. Shelly became a bartender and had to wear skimpy clothing as a server. The bar she worked at was called “The Library”. Shelly was on a band trip with concerts and got sent home without performing for drinking alcohol. Some people had big influence on Shelly’s attitude to not give up, for example her mom, kids at school, and her close relatives. Shelly worked in a senior’s home as a senior aide. Shelly moved to Campbell River for a man and she had her heartbroken after he broke up with her, bought then she met Paul. Shelly has been in and worked at school for almost her whole life.
Shelly Hollingshead is a very nice woman, with a lot of energy and full of smiles. She has had a lot of job experiences and would not change anything about what she would have done. Shelly worked as a donut jelly jammer for her first job for one year, she agreed that it was a boring job, but she had to start somewhere. Shelly had also worked as a bartender at the library and worked there for about nine years and enjoyed working there a lot. Shelly had mentioned that “It was a good experience and enjoyed the job.” Shelly also talked about how throughout her life until she had chosen what she wanted to be, that she had two sides of her life… One was that she was trying pass threw school and did her work; the other side was drinking and smoking with her friends. Even though Shelly had two sides of her life at a teenager, she had to decide with one, as growing up. When Shelly had finally decided that she had wanted to be a teacher, she had to leave those days behind. Shelly having to work at her school meant that she couldn’t let her regular life bother her, if she had problem at home, people at the school didn’t need to know about them because she had solutions on how to leave her problems alone during school hours. Shelly is a happy, smiley person that is never rude, or off topic, or even sad… As she had said before, she loves working at the school and being around kids, she does not have kids of her own but loves working with them.
Shelly wasn’t always the perfect student. She drank and she partied like any regular teenager. In memory of one time she got kicked out of a band trip for drinking alcohol when she should have been playing concerts.
She worked as a Jelly jammer, where she would put jam into donuts. It was very boring for her but she also didn’t find it that bad. From the money earned from this job, she managed to buy her first car. Shelly was also a bartender, she would help people, men mostly, with their problems as she poured them drinks. With that job Shelly learnt that she wanted to become a counselor.
Shelly had a company in which she called Dilly Dilly Lavender. Where she worked with lavender scents to make shampoos and soaps, but unfortunally for Shelly she had to stop her business to focus on her counseling career. She can see herself going back to that after she retires.
Shelly’s family strongly influenced her in her life. She spoke very sincerely about her mom and their relationship. She was also influenced by her extended family, like her brother and sister, and in high school she had a few teachers to help her get her act together. When asked how she stays so cheerful she said she used visualization to help her stay positive. For example, she would see a stop sign in her head to keep her anger away from school.
Overall her interview showed me that no matter what you can always get somewhere in your life and that you must always follow your heart if you would like to be happy.
