Out the door and onto the Island Highway by 4:05 AM. Drove for some time listening to Dala, a duo I first heard at Musicfest. A good fit since my destination on the trip was the Comox Valley, home of Musicfest. Turns out that soon after I left town a snow storm so severe that it closed schools.
Being early to Campbell River, I dropped in on the superintendent of schools who I had subbed with in 1990. He has his degree in Psychology so he quickly grasped the WGWT metaphors and approach. Then had a chat with the head of HR who plays a role in district wellness. Good to touch base with folks doing such significant work. It took no time to reach rich common ground.

Due to the highway snow conditions, I decided to hop on the train in Courtenay to return to Victoria after a quick visit to the parents in Campbell River. I figured that the snow would not be an issue for trains. What I did not anticipate was that the snow caused trees to fall on the tracks and severely hamper train operations.
Well, yesterdays snowfall caused so many large trees to fall that the VIA Rail train lost an engine on the way up island. This caused a 3 hour delay to arrive in Courtenay and the train was unfortunately not be able to return to Victoria. Out of necessity, VIA Rail chartered a bus to transport the 20 pre-paid passengers back to Victoria. During the course of the long day, everybody was calm and began to talk amongst strangers. The trip took an additional 2.5 hours, but it was a lovely way to meet new people and share travel stories. I made several new friends (one already added me to facebook) and I was not charged by VIA Rail for the trip! Not bad way to travel the island on a snowy day!
The afternoon had a meeting with a project partner and we had the best conversation. We’ve set up a video date in a couple of weeks to have her share her expansive thought on the WGWT metaphors. We are both celebrating to be working together. She’s also thrilled to be able to attend the WGWT Intro and Training.
By the end of the day we’ve had a small flood of passionate , well positioned folks for the WGWT series.
So much good!
Today I threw a Ladies shop night event at our Billabong store. There was wine, sushi, gift bags, and manicures. Despite the rain and wet snow, the turnout was great. Some old friends popped in for some support and all in all I would say it was a success!

Spending time with people who love what they do, is a great use of time.. a rich mix of story and the entrepreneurial spirit. The posts that follow with Monty the contractor and Hratch show just some of the wealth of expertise at the meeting. Their insights could be used for many of us.
