Our Board sent out Christmas cards to members of our church. Each card had a unique message. We got this message back from someone, ‘On my return to Church yesterday, I received your most welcome Christmas card which you sent me and it had such a warm message in it. It just filled me with a deep gratitude for the love that is expressed in our Church.’
Brief exchange with this ‘Parking Ambassador’ in Victoria left me wiser, and impressed. Lovely spirit.
One of the pair of wall lamps by my sofa has a switch that stopped turning the light on. My niece taped up the
plug so that I couldn’t use it in case it started to dangerously spark. A very helpful friend came over and took it all apart, and said I should take it to the lamp shop and see if they would fix it. I was there next morning, and the fellowat the counter sold me two little black switches (in case the other lamp soon needed it) , and a 3-way bulb. When I got home, no bulb in the bag! The receipt showed that I hadn’t paid for it, so I went out hunting for this special bulb. The second shop, a hardware store, had a helpful man who quickly found what I needed. Once home, I called my friend and he was soon kneeling on my sofa and fastening it all together and to the wall. It is now strong and perfect, with little time spent, little money spent, and much gratitude for helpful men and women … who treats me like an aunt!
I bought a transit Day Pass to go a couple of downtown meetings. After the last one I couldn’t find by pass. I told the bus driver and he let me on for free. Later, in the light and warmth of the bus I found it and told the driver his faith had ‘warmed my heart.’ I talked to a passenger, a regular rider, and she told me of moments of caring drivers had given her, giving her the benefit of the doubt when she hadn’t bought her monthly pass yet.
Our monthly Green Drinks had a vibrant turnout. Members described it as revitalized. A number of people told about new opportunities had resulted from introductions made at, or since the last meeting. Loved seeing the introductions made during this month’s meeting were a great fit. When we know a bit about each member or guest these connections can be facilitated graciously.
Made a presentation to a geography class about our Traveler in Your Own Town training to lessen social isolation. Students were engaged… major points covered.
