Shifting into a meaningful conversation
It started with my asking the cashier how many people bring their own bags. ‘ Families are more likely to bring bags.’ Individuals less likely… They don’t stand out. We then talked about how I stand out, and how she sees her job is to help people feel better.
The tone of our exchange escalated… She was talking about her role with her next customer…
Smiles are free ( and invaluable). He so represents the spirit of St Aidan’s Friendly Octopus. He brought up the power of smiling ( and it’s free) and so appreciated a friendly encounter. He thought the media wanted to portray an unhappy, depressed society.
A key to bus driver security
Bus 9105 .. #15 Express heading to UVic Sunday about 2:30 pm on a rainy afternoon. So impressed with the caring of the driver. One ESL student was standing at the wrong bus stop. She stopped anyway, let her know the correct stop ( for next time) .. and carried on. She responded appreciably each time a passenger thanked her as they left the bus. When I talked to her about her ‘style’ at the end of the ride, she said it was ‘customer service’ .. leaves everyone on the bus happier, more pleasant. She finds she never has difficulty with passengers
Received this pass to the Robert Bateman Gallery from the library. It is a ‘treasuretrove of art and story’ as most pieces have a story on a QR code. It transforms the experience of seeing each piece of art.
When I was walking away from locking up my bike a driver honked and then told me I”d dropped something. Turned out to be an important letter with some cheques in it. Later that day I was talking to someone. Later she came up to me and asked if I’d dropped $20 ( as I had been collecting these for an upcoming event.)
I needed a pot that would work on an inductive cooking top. I decided to go to Home Hardware on Oak Bay Ave since I was in the neighbourhood. Met a wonderful employee who is working there while on a holding pattern in her life. She like so many staff there was a pleasure to have a moment with.
