Life lessons from dogs
I learn so much from dog owners. One fellow has a boxer that was a rescue dog that had been kept in a crate for a year in Chilliwack.
“Harley” and the owner are so close now. He said, “There is not a quality in Harley that I don’t like.”
Talking to a 10 year old, I found out he liked playing football. I asked him what positions he liked playing and he had offensive and defensive responsibilities. He also told me the Seattle Seahawks player who inspired him. Interesting that he plays both ways while less interested players fool around ‘on the monkey bars’ near the bench. How soon people are recognized for their intensity and desire.
His grandfather listened intently, saying it was far more information that he was able to draw from him. Partly it’s in the different questions we ask..
Heard at the last minute about the city’s Music in the Park that night. Was able to excuse myself and get to this new-to-me park with 45 minutes left of the concert. Had some very interesting conversations, even danced with a woman who was dancing alone at the back of the field. One of the conversations was in the ‘Ask the Chief” tent with the deputy chief of police. This may have big implications as far as community building.
Confident knowing
The neighbour’s children came over to play. They chose a couple of puzzles to assemble. The boy played with some Brio trains for the first time. He said, ‘ I know everything, because I am going into grade 2.”
Love that sense of confidence.
On a family trip to the nearby zoo, several of our group are unfavourable to such “prisons” for wild animals, so we didn’t go in, but we noticed the pleasant landscaping and orderliness of the area. Then home for green smoothies and cheesecake, to finish up the left-overs from the anniversary dinner the night before
Met ‘Tobin’ at Cadboro Beach near my ‘ best seat in the house’ with his bike, waiting for a running group. He talked about the support Camosun is offering him in upgrading his math skills, from a grade 7 level, to college prep. Appreciated his courage to improve himself, and the positive process he’s helped shape.
