I was searching for a reliable WIFI connection in Skagway. In sorting through my backpack, my camcorder was put down. When leaving one outlet I realized I didn’t have it, and walked back to the library where I’d taken it out, asked around to other visitors outside the library. To no avail. I thought of the ideas I’d been working with earlier in the day about rejecting any negative suggestions. It came to me to return to the camera/ wifi outlet and there 20 minutes later, sitting by a mini lab of public computers, was my camera.
A woman in a buffet lineup on a cruise ship told me that she was retired. I asked her what she was focusing on now in life. After a very busy family and professional life, she is dedicating her time to rebuilding her marriage. ‘So many hit this point in their life, and then divorce.’ She and her husband both have this focus. There’s a tie in to their spiritual practice.
Smaller ship allows you to go to more intimate, scenic environs/ locations. I sat in the ‘crows nest’ of a cruise ship for about 2 hours talking to a stranger and soaking in the very slow paced unfolding beauty of scenic cruising on our way to Juneau, Alaska. It felt like being inside a slowly unfolding photo album. While the pervading colours on this rainy day were bluish.. watching the landscape continue to unfold mirrored the depths of conversation we shared about life and work and being a traveler. It was truly in the spirit of being a ‘traveler in your own town’… of no thought of following up or reconnecting.. just experiencing that moment of exploration.
