Increase your productivity  and customer service

Customers who feel they receive bad service tend to ‘sit on the fence’ and wait for a better alternative. They will be the first to leave when the opportunity is there.

The study shows that companies can improve their present and future market position through ensuring good customer service. Through their customer service, companies develop stronger emotional ties with their customers, and will appear as more attractive than the competition.

“Having satisfied, loyal and profitable customers must be every manager’s dream come true. Customer service might be a way of achieving this, not least when times are tough,” claims the BI professor.

Help your employees be happier

Why does happiness at work matter? Does it matter at all, or could we all just go to work, be unhappy, get our paychecks and be happy in our free time?

Happiness at work is not a luxury. It should not be your fifth priority after a good salary, a fancy title, a corner office and the key to the executive bathroom. Happiness is more important than anything else for determining your enjoyment of your work, your quality of life outside of work, and your success.  Source: Happy Hour is 9 to 5

The answer is clear: Not only does happiness at work matter, it is the major force that determines whether a person or a business will be successful   LINK

Make your work more interesting
When you offer work that is less interesting  you need to pay employees more to keep them with the company.

First, remember that for knowledge work, people work for more than just money. In the software industry, people take jobs (and stay at jobs) when the work is interesting, when they have the respect of the peers, and sometimes when there are enough other perks to make the salary acceptable.

Decrease stress
micro vs macro perspective
How broad is the vision, how far the reach?

As more companies start to realize that a happy employee is a productive employee, they have started to look for ways to improve the work environment. Many have implemented various work-life programs to help employees, including alternate work arrangements, onsite childcare, exercise facilities, relaxed dress codes, and more. Quality-of-work-life programs go beyond work/life programs by focusing attention less on employee needs outside of work and realizing that job stress and the quality of life at work is even more direct bearing on worker satisfaction. Open communications, mentoring programs, and fostering more amicable relationships among workers are some of the ways employers are improving the quality of work life.

Help tell your story powerfully

If you feel stuck in a relationship or  in your career chances are it’s the lack of having constructive conversations that’s keeping you there.

A bad hiring decision nowadays can be immensely expensive for an organization—cost of the hire, training costs, severance pay, loss of productivity, impact on morale, cost of re-hiring, etc. (Gallup international places the cost of a bad hire as being 3.2 times the individual’s salary). Studies indicate that 40% of new executives fail in their first 18 months in a new job.[3] This has led to organizations investing in onboarding for their new employees to reduce these failure rates.

Build and strengthen teams

Employees in the future will likely be looking for corporations that have a new work environment, one that encourages each employee to work toward improvement in the product or service; gives employees the responsibility and authority to make decisions, provides timely feedback, and rewards employees based upon the quality of the product and efforts. Team effort will assume central importance, especially that of self-directed work teams. Employees will choose employers who have aims and values that match theirs and who value balance in their employees’ lives. Employees want to learn and advance, so opportunities for professional growth will attract employees.

Increase sales
If we agree that the long-term objective of any business is growth, it stands to reason that one of the most cherished agents of growth – customer referrals – should be the ultimate measure of customer satisfaction and should be cultivated to the greatest extent possible.
Jim Berkowitz

In December 2005 a group of researchers published the results of a meta-study, which combined 225 studies in happiness that had examined the lives of 225,000 people.

The researchers concluded that while success does make you happier, there is an even stronger correlation in the opposite direction, i.e., that happiness will make you successful. The study also found that happy people are more optimistic, outgoing, likeable, motivated and energetic—all essential qualities for business success.

This means that we don’t have to sacrifice happiness for the sake of success—a depressingly common assumption these days. In fact, the opposite is true: The happier you are, the more successful you will be.
