Jim McIsaac –Environmental Advocate with T Buck Suzuki Foundation

Jim is a father, a fishermen, a philosopher, an environmentalist and a realist. Overall he’s a solutions person, always strategizing and looking for the next step. His major concern is sustainability and the next generations, we need to leave the planet healthy for our children; “I know we have some very serious issues, and we don’t have all the answers. We are creative creatures, we need to foster this to support the planet we live on.” Food security is a global issue. Over the last year Jim has been working with the commercial fishing interests to promote healthy fisheries on our coast.

Jason Heinrich, Engineer, adventurer, volunteer

Jason Heinrich, a junior engineer at DEC Engineering, has traveled a windy path back to Victoria after working and volunteering in Uganda, Rwanda and Abbotsford.

As a student, Jason won many academic awards such as the Top Academic/Governor General’s Award, UVic Excellence Scholarship. His athletic and leadership haves been recognized by the awards for soccer and basketball. After graduating from UVic, Jason was a finalist for the Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford.

For the past year, he has been working to develop renewable energy systems to help build sustainable communities and reduce our carbon footprint.

However, his work with community volunteerism and leadership stands as highlights in his life. Stemming from high school, he has volunteered locally and internationally, applying a lending hand and his educational background from Victoria to East Africa. His personal challenges have included helping close relatives deal with substance issues and handicaps. Learn how he balances his fun with his responsibilities at school and work. Find out what motivates him away from the ordinary in almost every part of his life.

Justin Blanchfield

Mechanical Engineer One of two Mechanical Engineers on staff. His expertise includes hydrodynamics, thermodynamics, and modelling. Justin is involved in the design of water supply systems and outfalls. He is currently modeling the Skeena river in Terrace to design a bank protection system to stop erosion and flooding. He is also on a team of engineers designing the water system for a $2 billion coal gasification plant in North Dakota (which includes carbon sequestration). His business development activities include developing the renewable energy department for Worley Parsons Canada. His renewable energy expertise includes ocean energy, small hydro, geoexchange and energy from waste. Justin also gets involved with a great deal of “green” development projects including Dockside Green and several new communities in BC

Tim Hewett - Currently working with Living Forest Communities
Focus and Passion: Sustainable Urban Design facilitating decreased dependency on automobile use, smart growth planning initiatives and the pedestrianization of urban space.
His experience includes working with multiple stakeholders on sustainability related issues. He’s had extensive travel and experiences evolving a truly global perspective, BSc and MSc in sustainable urban design and planning, and a positive and fun personality. He’s very interested in a focus on dealing with our societies’ shift away from fossil fuels

Christina Carrick, green realtor

Originally from Montreal and  moved to Canmore AB when she was 10. She grew up in the mountains and came to Victoria for university. Graduated in 2005 with an Philosophy degree and a minor in Ethics and started my real estate career one year later. She started in business by working for a Vancouver based developer and then after a year and a half decided to focus on ‘green’ real estate and have been very happy with her decision to be an entrepreneur and businesswomen.

Ryan McMillan
Artist , business owner of a furniture  design business.

After completing high school Ryan went to the west coast and  fished  for six years.  He then  fished for a year in in Australia where he met his wife.  After some time in Europe he returned to a Canada and took up  boat repair, as a natural transition to life on land. Wanting to home more he and his wife  started a furniture design business
