What it looks like:
Within a week of the interviews:
Day 1: The CSI facilitator meets with students in a computer lab to hear about the program
Each student is given a workbook ( run off by the school) with introductions to each of three speakers who are
coming to the school on Day 2.
Students are introduced to the power of curiosity and asking good questions. They then created questions around the themes of each speaker. In this process they are shown what makes a good question, and what doesn’t.
The students post these questions on line ( with a project username, not their own) , and write a journal reflecting on the learning from the session.
Day 2:
Held in a classroom or multipurpose room if more than one class takes part in the interviews at once.
15 minute interviews of each speaker is facilitated by the CSI rep. We usually have 3 speakers, requiring about an hour in total.
The speakers respond to questions of the students around the themes from each of their intro bios.
Depending on the number of classes in the school taking part in a Series, Day 2 interviews may be done by several classes at one time.
Students take notes in their workbook, and write a journal on our web site, giving feedback to each of the three speakers. These can be done using anonymous use names, or teacher assigned names to allow evaluation by the teacher.
Later on day 2 is best.. but could be the next day:
Computer lab time is booked in 30 minute segments for all students to share and post their feedback of their experience. This emphasizes and further develops students metacognition of the learning experience. It also allows speakers to receive written feedback quickly.
